Artists and Works
The MEISSEN® Manufactory
is a byword for art and luxury. MEISSEN® is Europe’s first and oldest
porcelain manufactory and as such has always been gauged by its ability not
only to uphold tradition but also to embrace innovative contemporary art.
This is an aspiration that has always led MEISSEN® to nurture cooperation
with outside artists, a process that last peaked in the 1920s. Acclaimed
artists such as Ernst Barlach, Paul Scheurich and Gerhard Marcks did a lot of
work for the Manufactory under Max Adolf Pfeiffer, its Director from 1918 to
1934.
MEISSEN’s artCAMPUS has revived the
pioneering spirit of its former Director Max Adolf Pfeiffer and has so far provided
over 30 contemporary international artists with a platform for working with
Meissen Porcelain and in the process creating outstanding works of art. The aim
is to establish MEISSEN® as a Mecca of modern sculptural art in porcelain.
The works of art that have already been produced reveal Meissen’ “artists in residence”
to have no end of artistic styles and creative potential.
