Middle East Project
With the Middle East Project, artCAMPUS places an emphasis on contemporary art from Arabic countries and Iran.
The art scene in the Middle East and Iran was not recognised at all by the international art world for a long time. A turning point has occurred for the first time in the past few years primarily due to the substantial projects, such as that of the Louvre and the Guggenheim museum branches in Abu Dhabi.
MEISSEN® would also like to support and expand exchange between the Orient and the western culture with this project. Artists from the Middle East are given the opportunity to work with traditional European materials in the first and oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe and to bring in their individual aesthetic and cultural backgrounds.
As part of artCAMPUS, numerous artists from the Middle East have already been guests in Meißen. Among these were Rokneddin and Ramin Haerizadeh, (both brothers), Nja Mahdaoui, Khaled Al-Saai and Ahmad Moualla. In the next two years, projects involving a further 20 major artists from the Middle East are planned. The project is being curated by Karin Adrian von Roques.
