MEISSEN® announces flagship store in Cologne
Heritage company takes over former Cartier boutique
The MEISSEN® Manufactory has run a shop in Cologne for the past ten years. This May the company will be moving from its existing premises to a new boutique in prestigious surroundings on Wallraffplatz - a location previously occupied by the jewellers Cartier.
This move is part of the company’s strategic realignment, which MEISSEN® Managing Director Dr Christian Kurtzke has been taking forward for a good year now. “I see MEISSEN® as a globally leading Manufactory in the spheres of art and handmade luxury. The existing premises and the form of presentation adopted there cannot be reconciled with my notion of the brand and history of MEISSEN®. Our new boutique in Cologne will allow many customers to experience the brand in a new light and is a clear sign of our commitment to Cologne as a location.”
The premises are let by the gallery proprietor Karsten Greve, who chose MEISSEN® from a long list of interested parties. “With MEISSEN® we have a tenant who has been writing art history for centuries,” Mr Greve enthuses, “and has underscored its intrinsic worth with its new presentation.”
The Manufactory plans to present products from all its segments in the boutique - starting with one-offs and limited editions by contemporary artists, continuing with exclusive interior design items and the familiar Fine Dining range and ending with the new MEISSEN® jewellery collection, which has already caused a furore in Italy.
MEISSEN® is the most heritage-rich Manufactory in Europe. Since the Manufactory was founded in 1710, MEISSEN® has been a byword for quality craftsmanship and unique creations for discerning customers - in the spheres of select interior designs, fine dining and jewellery & accessories. The MEISSEN® Manufactory is celebrating 300 years in business in 2010. MEISSEN® will be presenting products innovations focused on lifestyle and refinement at exhibitions and events throughout the world in the course of the year. The climax of all this activity takes the form of an exhibition entitled “All Nations are Welcome”, which MEISSEN® is running at the Manufactory from January to December 2010 as a bridge between cultures, nations and religions.
