Day and Night

Day and Night, this lovely allegory in Böttgersteinzeug® was created especially for Meissen’s tercentenary. The archaic material, the predecessor of Meissen Porcelain, had been forgotten for almost 200 years until the artists of the so-called Pfeiffer era discovered it anew for their work. In her philosophical work, Meissen porcelain sculptor Silvia Klöde now returns to the abundant creativity of the artists from that period. This piece presents sculpturally the cycle of life and the coming and passing of time and its events. The figurines of the rooster and owl are artfully repaired and modelled, like small metaphors, reminding us of change and fate in the eternal tides of time.
