We almost feel a little put on the spot when we gaze directly at the proportions, harmony, and details of “Girl After a Bath”. She surprises us with her apparently natural attitude, while she is highly idealised and pays homage to classical sculpture: beauty as the stuff of art, represented in an elegant metaphor. The art connoisseur can barely stop looking at the beauty of this innocent femininity, represented just before the moment of getting dressed. Dressing means covering oneself from the gaze of others. It is this very moment that enchants us. This figurine was created in 1883. At that time, Meissen acquired four sculptures by Robert Ockelmann in a style reminiscent of classical antiquity.
