Platter "Swan Service", L 46 cm
Johann Joachim Kaendler recognized the genius of nature in a
simple seashell’s play of forms. As if shaped by his own artist’s
hand, with waves, turning ribbons and interlocking ribs it corresponds
to his ideal of Baroque ornamentation. The seashell
is an important element in his fantastic Swan Service. He surpasses
his model immediately, rich life is to become a colourful
festival. In order to achieve this, Kaendler, together with
the modellers Johann Friedrich Eberlein and Johann Gottlieb
Eder, worked for Heinrich Count Brühl from 1737 to 1741.
The Meissen manufactory was under his supervision as a powerful
cabinet minister, and he had extensive privileges there.
So rather high-handedly, he commissioned the Swan Service:
for more than 100 people with over 2000 individual pieces,
it is a superlative of the German Baroque. Hence, this exclusive
limited edition bears Brühl’s coat of arms.
