Saxon Vase, H 16 cm

With her “Saxon Vase”, Gudrun Gaube (born in 1961) created an insightful homage to the positive characteristics of the people of Saxony. The love of art she captures with the cobalt blue typical of Meissen, their research and botanical achievements with a new Saxon kind of strawberry and East-Asian exoticism. She even quotes the Pillnitz camellia, and Saxon steadfastness is charmingly evoked by a snail. Green and white stands for the Saxon state colours. The copiously used gold, we can guess that already, tells of the discovery of porcelain during the search for the Arcanum recipe. Gudrun Gaube also put her love in writing: in French, the language used at the court of Augustus the Strong.
