Vase "Flora & Fauna", H 40 cm

A vase is generally used to show off flowers. This particular vase, however, is eloquent testimony to how an unassuming object can be raised to far greater heights. Tantalising illusory effects are most subtly achieved through the mastery of Meissen flower painters and modellers. The vase wears its purpose on its sleeve, as it were: it depicts a jolly world of flowers and sweet fruits so vividly that they appear to burst free of their dimensional constraints. Vine leaves, ripe red cherries and delicate white blooms cheerily thrust their way out of the painted picture. A bird pecks at a grape from its perch and we can almost hear it chirp! So vivid is it all that the vessel’s basic function is quite forgotten; we simply marvel at its wondrous transformation – into a true MEISSEN® art work.
