Vase "Oriental Painting", H 37,5 cm
This wonderful vase form was originally intended for the
Japanese Palace in Dresden and has since come to epitomise
timeless elegance due to its great visual harmony. The “Palace
Vase” dates from around 1725. It has now been raised to the
status of precious MEISSEN® Art Work by dint of opulent
oriental decoration, an art that porcelain painters at MEISSEN®
have very much made their own. It was not long after Europe
had cracked the secret of porcelain, after all, that Höroldt’s
paint laboratory began devising colours so intense they even
outshone
their Chinese counterparts, produced since the early
17th century in Nanking. The fine gilt scrolling rises like
sunlight in this freshly configured design, the form then
flaring out to allow the polychrome splendour of an intoxicating
garden inhabited by heavenly birds to unfold.
