Vase "Stylised Flowers", H 40 cm
One of the most outstanding treasures of Meissen is undoubtedly
the “Garden of Börner Vases”: no museum in the world
owns anything comparable. Emil Paul Börner’s style of painting
of is one of the great mysterious flowerings of Art Deco. While
in the eighteenth century, botany is placed at the foreground,
here we see the transparent essence of the flora itself.
Detached in space, arranged in an almost ornamental fashion,
and yet true in every detail, painted with the greatest skill,
Börner’s work takes on an almost philosophical aspect. Masterfully
painted on a so-called calabash vase, which was designed
in Meissen between 1725 and 1730, a sophisticated link is
made bridging the early 18th century and the start of the 20th
century: a masterpiece of porcelain history.
