MEISSEN introduced the new "Waves" table service, designed by Sabine Wachs, in 1996. The contemporary tableware series is characterised by its lively design vocabulary, which transposes its source of inspiration, the play of waves, into a variety of dishes' contours. Meissen sculptor Jörg Danielczyk drew inspiration from the maritime motif to create a relief pattern specifically for this table service. This sculptural pattern has been applied to the lip of the egg cup, lending it a lively, dynamic feel. The rose artwork has been applied on to the egg cup by hand, requiring meticulously fine brushstrokes. The naturalistic style is rooted in the flower still lifes of the Biedermeier period - the golden age of floral patterns at MEISSEN.
