The "Rainbow Onion Pattern" is a colourful reinterpretation of one of Meissen's most iconic decorative motifs that contrasts the opulence of the original pattern with a modern sense of playfulness. The design takes traditional elements in their original form and arranges them on modern objects in contemporary colours - an innovative homage to the manufactory's own history in which the monochromatic pattern is inseparably linked to the development of Meissen's signature cobalt blue. Inspired by Eastern Asian porcelain, which, at that time, was primarily decorated in blue and white, the original design was created in 1731. It features peaches and melons as well as bamboo shoots and delicate chrysanthemum blossoms, found elegantly strewn across this classic vase design.
