Copy of a painting by Jan Frans van Dael (1774-1840)

Napoleon Bonaparte and Charles X were just two of the clients who commissioned work from the Dutch flower-and-fruit painter Jan Frans van Dael (1774-1840). He worked very successfully in Paris from 1786 onwards. His pictures can now be admired in the Hermitage Museum at St. Petersburg, the Lyon Museum or the Louvre - as well as on Meissen Porcelain®. Works by celebrated artists have been copied by the cream of porcelain painters since the 18th and 19th centuries. Picture painting is one of the highest arts practised at the Manufactory, one that none but a very few staff with long experience and exceeding aptitude are versed in. Faithfully copying a painting onto porcelain presupposes absolute mastery of both the brush and the entire range of colours, qualities clearly evidenced in “Still Life with Flowers and Fruit”: a magnificent work of art for the home that, unlike the original, will never fade or lose its sheen.
