The world of Asia has a special standing amongst the cultures documented on Meissen porcelain. Porcelain painter Victoria Schmidt stands full-square in the tradition of her intricately executed oriental models with her latest scheme. It depicts a "green peafowl" whose graphic source was a copy produced by Wilhelm Wache, and held in the Manufactory archives, of a coloured woodblock print from Japan. The painted detail most delightfully emphasizes the elegant flow of the dish's shape. It is the restrained rendition in two colours that lends this sumptuous item its inner harmony.
