In articles published by Sächsische Zeitung and Leipziger Volkszeitung on 21 August 2026 concerning MEISSEN, it was stated, among other things, that the Free State of Saxony had provided the Manufactory with €52.2 million in subsidies in 2023 and 2024 alone in order to prevent its collapse.

This wording is misleading, as it suggests that the Manufactory is currently incurring annual losses in the high double-digit millions that have to be covered by the Free State of Saxony. This is not the case.

The €52.2 million is primarily attributable to the conversion of shareholder loans from previous years, with the majority dating back to years prior to 2015. These liabilities are primarily attributable to burdens incurred by the company during its expansion into other product segments, including clothing, furniture, accessories and jewellery.

The amount also includes funds related to the company’s restructuring in 2019, as well as COVID-19 assistance. The figures cited in the articles are therefore not new. Since 2015, both the company and the media have repeatedly reported on these amounts in various contexts.

What is correct is that, for the two years 2023 and 2024, the Manufactory received a total of €6 million under a cultural burden compensation scheme (Kulturlastausgleich).
