MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan

MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan pays homage to the splendour of modern Grand Hotel silverware, presenting an extensive tableware series in crisp and clear design. The “MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan” collection takes on a unique role in Meissen’s product portfolio, allowing unprecedented variability in combining its objects, both within and between decor variants. More than ten different decorative designs are realised within the collection. This variability along with the collection’s effortless elegance pave the way for a contemporary dining culture. Alongside its classic white variant, showcasing Meissen porcelain’s coveted lustre, the collection also presents a thoroughly novel design approach – gold- and platinum-enamelled surfaces, and the more subdued “Mesh Structures”. All finishes have been applied by hand, channelling the manufactory’s artisanal tradition into a thoroughly modern tableware design.
  • Blue Orchid
Constantly reflecting on one’s own rich artistic heritage is deeply rooted in the Meissen tradition. The filigree “Blue Orchid” decor is no exception. It is based on a 1970 design by Professor Heinz Werner: “Blue Orchid on a Branch” is one of the ingenious porcelain painter’s most popular motifs. For the “MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan” collection, one element of Werner’s original is placed in the centre of the elegant “Mesh platinum” pattern, lending the pieces a minimalist feel. The “Blue Orchid” is created using an elaborate under-glaze painting technique. The paint is applied directly to the unfired, still porous porcelain, allowing it to absorb the colour immediately, and making it impossible to correct any errors. The design’s initial appearance, a matte grey, only attains its characteristic cobalt blue radiance after glazing and in reaction to the subsequent glaze firing.
  • White
The “MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan” collection stands for a timeless design that marries Meissen’s high-quality porcelain with a contemporary look and feel. With its clear lines, the “MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan” collection’s “White” decor variant showcases the radiant lustre for which Meissen Porcelain is so renowned. The decor variant’s understated elegance, combined with the collection’s sleek design make for particularly striking combinations with other decor variants. All objects of the “MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan White” collection are dishwasher safe.
  • Platinum and Mesh Platinum
Even rarer than gold, platinum is the most precious of all metals. Its special purity produces such a unique shine – ranging from metallic to nearly pure white – that truly captivates the observer. Platinum is always unobtrusive and elegant. The expressive platinum foundation underlines the timeless, clear character of the “MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan” collection and emphasises the coveted radiance of the porcelain. With its subtle elegance, the “MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan” collection in “Platinum”, and in the somewhat more reserved “Mesh Platinum” design offer one-of-a-kind highlights in any interior.
  • Gold and Mesh Gold
Once appointed as the personal alchemist to Augustus the Strong, Johann Friedrich Böttger spent several years at the court but was never able to provide the gold demanded by the Elector of Saxony. Instead, as a result of his efforts, he discovered the formula for the production of porcelain, which at that time was almost more valuable than gold. For the “Gold” decor of the “MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan” collection, the porcelain is plated with truly opulent swaths of the precious metal. For this, Meissen’s specialized painters use fine burnished gold, which is matte right after leaving the kiln. The decor receives its characteristic shine through a polishing with a sharpened semi-precious stone, an agate stylus. Matching designs in “Mesh Gold” offer a subtle counterpoint to these lavish pieces.
  • Royal Palace
For 150 years, the Albrechtsburg palace remained the only production site of the Meissen manufactory. Its historic floor mosaics inspired the geometric “Royal Palace” decor.
  • Blue Treasures
With the "MEISSEN Blue Treasures" service, MEISSEN brings maritime flair to your own home. The lobsters, seahorses, shells and fish depicted in great detail on the service, create an underwater world full of fascination, romance and longing. The service combines the feeling of a light sea breeze with the grace and the highest quality standards of filigree craftsmanship. The result is a decor full of summery lightness and captivating naturalness for your own interior. Implemented in underglaze painting on the pure service form MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan, traditional craftmanship is combined in an impressive way with contemporary decor and shape.
  • Giant Bloom
The new “Giant Bloom” collection that is implemented on the service form MEISSEN® COSMOPOLITAN, surprises with new floral decors such as lilies, hibiscus and peonies. Inspired by the "Giant Bloom" vase from the Limited Masterworks 2021, the lavish hand paintings cover the porcelains in a stylized form. The interplay of concentrated areas of colour and consciously used white space creates a clear and inspiring modernity. Can also be perfectly combined with the new mesh decors in pastel green and blue. Our MEISSEN artist Lena Hensel also dealt with the great importance of flowers for her décor development "Giant Bloom". She was able to skillfully combine her great enthusiasm and expertise for colours and their numerous symbols and effects with the world of flowers. Together with our porcelain painters in a period of almost 12 months, a wide variety of floral decors were created, which bring spring and summer to the home table with their colours.
  • GOLDEN BAMBOO
Durability, resilience and wealth - values that can be attributed to both our Meissen porcelain and bamboo. When developing the Golden Bamboo decor in 2023, product designer Zhuoyu Hou drew on the art history of her Asian roots. As one of the elements of the so-called "Four Gentlemen", bamboo is one of the most popular motifs of the Song Dynasty (960 to 1279) - not only because of its refined beauty, but above all because of its characteristic features, which have been attributed to it by Chinese writers for generations. With the bamboo, Zhuoyu Hou has created a decoration that transforms MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan into a true symposium of tradition and modernity, symbolism and craftsmanship.
“Modern, elegant and diverse - ‘MEISSEN® Cosmopolitan’ creates a whole new level of flexibility and changes the way we've been thinking about dinner service so far.”
