description
With "Orchester Kuriosum," MEISSEN artist Maria Walther creates an imaginative world in which people and musical instruments merge into extraordinary beings. "Tom Peter" embodies the world of wind instruments, translating breath, sound, and musical movement into an expressive sculptural form.
The distinctive shapes of wind instruments become part of the figure itself, defining its unmistakable silhouette. Sweeping lines, tubular elements, and finely modeled bell-shaped forms reflect the varied design language of trumpets, horns, and other wind instruments. The composition creates the impression that breath, air, and sound are flowing directly through the figure, bringing it vividly to life.
Crafted from MEISSEN Boettger Stoneware, "Tom Peter" takes on a particularly powerful material presence. The stoneware's signature reddish-brown tone and warm, earthy character accentuate the sculptural modeling while lending the figure remarkable depth, presence, and individuality.
Inspired by Asian mythologies in which fantastical beings are believed to possess the ability to animate objects, Maria Walther transforms instrument and personality into a singular new entity. "Tom Peter" brings together musical imagination, contemporary sculptural design, and MEISSEN's exceptional tradition of Böttger Stoneware in a distinctive collector's piece.
