The New Delhi-based artist duo Thukral & Tagra - Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra - is among the internationally recognized figures in contemporary Indian art. Their work combines sculpture, installation, design, and graphic art with pop-cultural imagery, urban architecture, and social questions. Works by the duo have been presented at international art fairs, including Art Basel and Art Miami. During a residency at the Meissen Art Campus, Thukral & Tagra developed a series of contemporary porcelain sculptures. Their starting point was historic forms and models from the Meissen archive, which they transformed into new hybrid objects. Traditional porcelain bodies are combined with intense colored glazes, architectural elements, and unusual additional forms. A defining feature of their works is the deliberate integration of funnel-shaped kiln aids - technical elements that are normally used exclusively during the production process. Thukral & Tagra make these elements visible and interpret them as symbolic "speakers" that carry the message of the work out into the world. This one-of-a-kind piece explores the universal power of human dreams. The artists take up the idea that people, regardless of origin, social status, or caste affiliation, have wishes and visions of the future. The house depicted on the vessel stands for one of the most fundamental dreams: the desire for a home of one's own, for security, belonging, and personal fulfillment. The wings on the vase give this dream a poetic dimension. They symbolize the ability of hopes and wishes to rise above boundaries. The house thus becomes a symbol of a future that appears reachable through imagination and confidence.
