The MEISSEN Amazon Collection

The largest rainforest, the most species-rich savannah, the river with the most water: Amazonia is a region of superlatives. The Amazon rainforest stretches across a large part of north-western Brazil to Colombia, Peru and other South American countries and is home to countless animal and plant species. But it is a paradise that is under threat as never before due to deforestation, forest fires and climate change. Join MEISSEN on a fantastic journey through the flora and fauna of the Amazon tropical rainforest. With the new “The Amazon Collection” under the motto “Make the world a better place”, MEISSEN brings to life the extraordinary beauty of this landscape, in and on “white gold”, and thus demonstrates the entire artistic skill of the manufactory.

    Exclusive collection of Amazon murals
The impressive murals in our “Exclusive Collection” are an artistic journey into the deep green of the rainforest. MEISSEN designer Lena Hensel combined fascinating motifs from the Brazilian Amazon to create a true masterpiece. In her search, she came across the hyacinth macaw, one of the most iconic symbols of Brazilian biodiversity. Using intense colors, she created the tropical habitat of this fascinating bird in a naturalistic painting style and with various, very elaborate painting techniques. Two large specimens of the hyacinth macaw dominate the scene amidst the countless shades of green of the rainforest, framed by lush palm trees and all kinds of other exotic plants. These intelligent and extremely sociable animals have an impressive ability: they can learn to imitate sounds such as the human voice or the sounds of other animals.

    Exclusive Collection Amazonas Vase
MEISSEN porcelain painter Michaela Hummitzsch wrapped a vase by Chinese artist Zhuoyu Hou in the fascinating world of the dense, tropical rainforest. In intense colors, naturalistic painting style and with various, very elaborate painting techniques, we see iconic animals of the region such as the hyacinth macaw, the yolk toucan or the bearded emperor tamarin. The large vessel surface of the vase served Lena Hensel as the perfect stage on which to bring the exotic natural spectacle to life. However, the outstanding size of the vase presented not only the porcelain painter but also all the employees in the white production department with a challenge in terms of craftsmanship. At 90 cm, it is the maximum that the manufactory workers can produce in the decor kiln, and a specially made painting stand is required for the decoration.

Make the world a better place
Taking social responsibility for our planet is a matter close to our hearts. That‘s why, together with Ekosfera and our sustainably produced MEISSEN mugs, we want to make a positive contribution to climate protection. With every purchase of a MEISSEN mug “Amazon”, a donation is made to projects that support the preservation of the rainforest. This offsets the carbon footprint of the average European for three months. This support for our environment is verified with an exclusive certificate after purchase.

    This is how it works:
    1. You buy a MEISSEN Mug “Amazon” and can download your certificate online as an environmental achievement for your conscious consumption.
    2. The carbon credits you receive neutralize part of your carbon footprint.
    3. EKOSFERA thus supports projects for the preservation of the Amazon and this special habitat.

    Exotic animal figurines
At the beginning of the 20th century, animal sculpture experienced a renaissance at the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory. Renowned animal sculptors such as Georg Pilz, Otto Jarl and August Gaul, followed by the manufactory's own geniuses such as Paul Walther, created masterpieces of naturalistic animal sculpture for the manufactory. Not only the beauty, strength and agility of the creatures are perfectly rendered, but also the inscrutability of the animal soul as it manifests itself in each of these creatures. Exclusively for “The Amazon Collection”, selected animal sculptures from this era have now been given a new staffage, making the imposing works appear even more alive than ever before.
