Join MEISSEN on a journey through the flora and fauna of the Amazon. With "The Amazon Collection", MEISSEN celebrates the beauty of the tropical rainforest while drawing attention, together with EKOSFERA, to the growing threats facing one of the planet's most important ecosystems.

The Amazon is a region of superlatives: home to the world's largest rainforest, its most biodiverse savannah and its most powerful river system. Stretching across Brazil, Colombia, Peru and other South American countries, it provides a habitat for countless animal and plant species. Yet this unique natural treasure is increasingly endangered by deforestation, forest fires and climate change.

Under the motto "Make the World a Better Place", a Meissen porcelain painter transformed a vase by the Chinese artist Zhuoyu Hou into a vivid portrayal of the tropical rainforest. Executed in brilliant colours, a naturalistic style and a variety of demanding painting techniques, the decoration features iconic inhabitants of the region, including the hyacinth macaw, the saffron toucanet and the emperor tamarin.

The generous surface of the vase provided Lena Hensel with the ideal stage on which to bring this exotic world to life. At the same time, the exceptional dimensions of the vessel posed a challenge for both the porcelain painter and the craftsmen responsible for the white porcelain body. Standing 90 centimetres high, it represents the maximum size that can be accommodated in the decoration kiln and requires a specially constructed painting stand.

With this monumental work, the manufactory makes an artistic statement in support of protecting these remarkable animals and their threatened habitat.
