MEISSEN x Olaf Hajek
  • About Olaf Hajek
In 2020, the renowned German illustrator Olaf Hajek implemented his inimitable, much-admired graphical style on various porcelain objects from MEISSEN. The artist, born in Rendsburg, Germany, studied graphic design at the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf and today realizes a wide variety of projects with well-known partners from the fashion, hotel and technology industries. For his expressive collection with MEISSEN, Hajek draws on the imagery of fantastic gardens and the secrets they safeguard and creates an artistic séance of magic and the metaphysical. In a fascinating way, Hajek breaks down the boundaries between reality and imagination, integrating aspects of South American folklore, mythology, religion, history and geography.
"Olaf Hajek's vases and Home Deco collection for MEISSEN - an artistic séance of magic and the metaphysical."
  • ABOUT THE VASES AND HOME DECO COLLECTION
Olaf Hajek’s vase collection for MEISSEN draws on the imagery of fantastic gardens and the secrets they safeguard. The vases – each an artistic séance of magic and the metaphysical – showcase a host of different personas sauntering in front of the lattices in a cultivated garden. With their psychedelic floral robes, they themselves become a personification of their enchanted surroundings. Peaceful lions and other predators are depicted to animate the fairy tale scene and highlight its paradisical character in which humans and nature become one: Butterflies unfold to Rorschach-like portraits, costumed flower hats twine around their wearers and blue hues – a colour of the gods and the metaphysical since antiquity – are used to exalt their viewers’ longing for music and dance.
The joint vase collection from last year forms the artistic basis for the new Home Deco collection "Flower Ballet", where selected motifs of Olaf Hajek's vases find a wonderful stage. So the decor of the two new “Flower Ballet“ dishes was inspired by the “Flower Guards” vase. The mug of the same name and the two vases with decorative cutouts from the 2020 vase collection complete the new Home Deco collection. Olaf Hajek's decors are based on the so-called Merian painting, a painting style that reproduces the flowers according to historical copperplate engravings and is still firmly anchored at Meissen till today. With the perfectly matching and elegant packaging, the porcelains are also a perfect gift for any occasion.
