The love story of the snowball blossom
#loveinfullbloom
  • Ever since love has existed, the colorful splendor of botanical flowers has been one of the clear ambassadors of intense emotion. For example, the colorful gerbera stands for sincerity and friendship, orchids describe devotion to an important person and white lilies embody both purity and beauty. The color of many red flowers also indicates the great emotions they represent. Red like the sky of the rising sun, red like the juicy cherries on the tree, red like the love that gives our lives lightness. Red roses are a widespread symbol of love in our culture. Violets and fire lilies in this bright color also stand for love between couples or love for family, friends and siblings.

Even though the red rose is probably the best-known floral symbol of love, there have been numerous other flowering gifts in history that were intended to embody love. In our MEISSEN porcelain manufactory, for example, Johann Joachim Kaendler put the flowers of a very special plant species in the spotlight of passion, which in form and color embody the good, the perfect, the light - the blossoms of the common snowball (Viburnum Opulus). The beauty of the Snowball Blossoms lies in their delicate fullness and their elegant white, which appears like soft snow in spring.

King Augustus III wanted to give his beloved wife, who was none other than the Electress of Austria, a very special treat. As a token of his love, he commissioned Johann Joachim Kaendler in 1739 to create a delicate blossom made of white gold. This blossom, so delicate and graceful, can now be found in our "1739 Royal Blossom" collection. Elegantly combined with elements of gold or silver, the fine jewelry flatters every wearer. Whether the wife of the Polish king would have liked to wear the Snowball Blossom as a necklace, ear stud, earring or even finger ring, as we do today, we will unfortunately never know. The first piece made especially for Maria Josepha with the snow-white blossoms was a service for the table. She must have been delighted to receive this symbol of love from her beloved husband.
"The most beautiful thing on Earth, however, is to love and to be loved.“
Wilhelm Busch
  • The two married on August 20, 1719 in Vienna. Despite the arranged marriage by his father, August and Maria Josepha were one heart and one soul. Their wedding was celebrated magnificently, with pomp and splendor in our Saxon capital. Among other things, they organized banquets, knights' games, masked balls, operas and operettas, fireworks, indeed everything the heart of the nobility desires!
