The figurine "Buddha" joins the lively and varied world of figurines of the manufactory, which has represented the masterpieces of Meissen's artisanship since its foundation in 1710. The Buddha figurine shines in the brilliant white of the Meissen porcelain and its design is reduced to the absolute essentials. His hand gesture allows us to infer his exact spiritual meaning. Both hands rest on the lap, with the back of the right hand lying on the palm of the left hand. This distinguishes the figure as a Dhyana Buddha, whose meditation mudra symbolises concentration and contemplation. It was this posture that Buddha adopted during his last meditation when he achieved complete enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
