At MEISSEN, the tradition of bird painting as a unique genre stretches back centuries and, in the "Flying Jewels" collection, is contrasted brilliantly with a modern design language. Reminiscent of paper cut silhouettes, the twigs and leaves are applied using a technical décor method in graphic black. The birds are painted onto the plates in exquisite detail after the first decorative firing. Their brilliant colours, which were developed in the manufactory's in-house laboratory, are particularly eye-catching and used here to capture the vibrant plumage of the kingfisher. It is this tantalizing contrast to the graphic branches and immaculate lustre of the porcelain that represents this collection's unique character.
