description
The New Delhi-based artist duo Thukral & Tagra - Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra - is among the internationally recognized voices in contemporary Indian art. Their work combines sculpture, design, and installation with social questions, architecture, pop culture, and symbolic visual worlds.

During their residency at the Meissen Art Campus, the artists developed a series of contemporary porcelain sculptures based on historic Meissen forms. In doing so, they bring traditional craftsmanship together with a distinctive visual language that reflects urban environments, personal memories, and social developments.

This unique piece takes up the motif of the house as a symbol of human living spaces. Its architectural form recalls modern residential and urban structures and points to themes such as home, community, and the shaping of one's own surroundings.

The painted green façade elements give the building a rhythmic, almost graphic quality, while also evoking balconies, windows, or modular components of contemporary architecture. The restrained color palette of green and blue creates deliberate accents within the white porcelain and underscores the connection between architecture and nature.

Particularly striking is the lush floral covering on the roof. Numerous sculpturally modeled blossoms, leaves, and organic forms appear to overgrow the building, transforming the architecture into a living, growing structure. Nature and the built environment enter into dialogue with one another.

The blossoms may be understood as symbols of growth, creativity, and life's ability to unfold even within highly structured environments. Through the interplay of clear architectural form and freely proliferating floral design, a compelling contrast emerges between order and organic growth, between human planning and the forces
