In the course of examining Meissen´s archive of historical moulds, Otto Drögsler discovered this animal sculpture by Otto Pilz. Breaking with Meissen´s tradition of naturalistic embellishments, Drögsler projects onto the timid desert foxes a graphic pattern of pastel hues which engulfs the figurine´s three-dimensional contours. The decor´s abstract character necessitates masterful painting by hand and the utmost in abstract visual understanding. Each color must be applied individually, with long intermittent drying periods, to ensure precise contours.
