description
With the cheeky beaver figure "Spitzer," Maria Walther adds another original character to her imaginative series of animal figures made of Böttger stoneware. With its little paws, the beaver clings to the tip of an oversized pencil-apparently it has tampered with it itself. The massive pencil tip towers over the beaver and humorously raises the question: What is Spitzer up to?
Whether as a quiet tinkerer, secret illustrator, or imaginative storyteller, the character remains mysterious and leaves room for your own imagination. Like "Nutpacker," the travel-loving squirrel with a backpack, Spitzer is part of a series of supporting characters based on Kästner's Conference of Animals. These characters originate from the artist's narrative imagery - small personalities that hint at scenes without defining them.
The figure is made of Böttger stoneware - a historic material developed by Johann Friedrich Böttger in the early 18th century. The warm, reddish-brown tone and finely crafted details give the beaver figure "Spitzer" a sculptural presence that is both playful and artistic.
At the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory, the epitome of European craftsmanship since 1710, each figure is traditionally handcrafted. The "Spitzer" beaver figure fits perfectly into the series-an idiosyncratic, charmingly enigmatic character that invites storytelling, combination, and smiles.
