According to Greek mythology, a devastating war once raged between gods and Titans. The giant Atlas joined the Titan leader Kronos. But they lost the battle. As a result, Zeus punished Atlas: from then on, he had to carry the heavy vault of heaven at the westernmost edge of the world to prevent earth and heaven from colliding again.
The impressive designer figure "Atlas with globe" shows a variation of this very task. Rich in detail and expressively hand-painted, the viewer guesses the heavy load on the shoulders of the sculpture, which must lift the weight of the entire world.
