description
The vase was originally developed by the architect Gottfried Semper (1803 - 1879). In 1836, he designed this magnificent vase, which was to be a technical challenge. Its considerable size made it extremely difficult to fire, but the feat was achieved and the spectacular masterpiece was presented at the London World Exhibition in 1851.

The history of Moritzburg Castle near Dresden is closely linked to Meissen in many ways. On the one hand, it was the hunting lodge of Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony, patron of the arts and founder of the manufactory, who pursued the privilege of nobility here with great passion in the 18th century. On the other hand, one of its towers served as a studio for the then newly founded Meissen artists' collective consisting of Prof. Heinz Werner, Ludwig Zepner, Peter Strang, Volkmar Bretschneider and Rudi Stolle in the 1960s and 1970s. Many new ideas emerged here, the most important of which was probably the "Large Detail" service, which the collective developed on the basis of their nature studies around Moritzburg.

A worthy monument has now been erected to this special building for the manufactory and the Free State of Saxony. The vase shows Moritzburg in a wonderfully naturalistic and extremely detailed landscape painting: the deciduous trees glow in the most beautiful autumn colors, in the foreground the castle is reflected on the smooth surface of the lake. Bringing this colorful opulence to life on porcelain demands every facet of the Meissen porcelain painters' art.
