MEISSEN shows Shiva as Nataraja, in the cosmic dance tandava, while one of his hands indicates the protective abhayamudra hand position. The curved arch in the middle of which the god dances symbolises the cosmos, whose entire inherent movement goes back to the rhythmic dance of the god. The process symbolises the creation, destruction and re-creation of the universe.
