The figurine "Buddha" shines in the brilliant white for which MEISSEN is world-famous. Its design is reduced to the absolute essentials. The hand gesture reveals its precise spiritual meaning. Both hands rest on the lap, with the back of the right hand resting on the palm of the left hand. This characterises the Meissen porcelain figurine as a Dhyana Buddha, who symbolises concentration as well as immersion with his meditation mudra. It was the posture, which Buddha adopted during his last meditation when he attained perfect enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The figurine "Buddha" is part of Meissen's lively and varied world of figurines, which has represented the masterpieces of craftsmanship since the founding of the manufactory in 1710.
