description
With the "Nutpacker," Meissen artist Maria Walther created an imaginative squirrel figure made of Böttger stoneware, inspired by Erich Kästner's story The Conference of Animals. Even though the "Nutpacker" is not part of the original story, the figure is intended as a newly conceived supporting character-from the artist's own poetic world.
The cheeky squirrel carries a small backpack filled with provisions for an adventurous journey. With attentive eyes and lively posture, it enthusiastically climbs a giant nut - a symbol of curiosity, courage, and the joy of discovery. The scene appears lively, almost narrative, leaving room for your own stories about the little Nutpacker.
Like all porcelain figurines from MEISSEN, this piece is also elaborately handcrafted from Böttger stoneware - the historic material developed by Johann Friedrich Böttger at the beginning of the 18th century. The warm, reddish-brown tone and the finely crafted details underline the natural, almost sculptural character of the squirrel figurine.
Founded in 1710, the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory has stood for the highest level of craftsmanship for over 300 years. Maria Walther's "Nutpacker" shows how this tradition can be combined with narrative imagination and modern design - a tribute to storytelling through form and material. A playful work of art with depth and character.
