description
This two-part wall panel by Otto Piene (1928-2014), co-founder of the internationally acclaimed ZERO movement, is an extraordinary work of art that powerfully unites light, material, and silence. Together with Heinz Mack, Piene established the ZERO movement in the late 1950s as a radical artistic new beginning that placed light, space, movement, and reduction at the center of artistic expression.
Crafted from two immaculate white porcelain panels produced by the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory, the work measures 75 centimeters in height and 88 centimeters in width. Its surface evokes the quiet presence and delicate texture of freshly fallen snow - pure, soft, and almost immaterial.
The porcelain creates a subtle interplay of light, smoothness, and refined irregularities, entirely in keeping with Otto Piene's artistic vision. As a pioneer of light and fire art, Piene sought to make atmosphere and energy visible through reduced forms. In this work, he translates his distinctive visual language into porcelain, whose clarity and reflective qualities become the ideal medium for his aesthetic vision.
As a signed unique piece, this MEISSEN wall panel combines centuries-old porcelain craftsmanship with the groundbreaking artistic language of one of Germany's most important postwar artists. It speaks to collectors who recognize in reduction not emptiness, but quiet intensity and poetic power.
