The Pug has a long tradition at Meissen. Even the Saxon elector and founder of the manufactory, August the Strong, once gave his famous lover Countess Cosel a pug made of Meissen porcelain. Until today the enthusiasm for this dog breed is unbroken, which is why MEISSEN dedicates an own collection with over sixty different variants to the popular pets. Among them the pug shown here with colourful bells and painted with gold by artist Johann Joachim Kaendler from the middle of the 18th century.
