description
With "Giant Bloom," designer Lena Hensel opened a new chapter in contemporary Meissen flower painting as part of the Limited Artworks 2020. Her oversized, stylized blossoms reveal details such as the veins of a petal or delicate grains of pollen inside the flower-subtleties the human eye cannot normally perceive.
For her latest series, "Blooming Colour," the artist chose rounded forms that are especially well suited to this type of design. Created in collaboration with Meissen painter Steffen Mikosch, Hensel's vases present an exuberant play with Meissen's worlds of color, bringing out the full intensity and luminosity of the decoration.
On the smallest vase, deep shades of purple and radiant yellow complement one another in an eclectic blend of depth and brilliance.
Hensel's designs reveal a profound passion for the many possibilities of color design and the subtle nuances of Meissen's color palette, whose exact composition has remained a closely guarded secret for more than 300 years. In her studio, she collects colors and decorations from a variety of techniques, experiments with them, and transforms classical motifs into timeless, often abstract compositions full of expressive power.
