For more than 300 years, Meissen porcelain has stood for refined craftsmanship and unsurpassed design standards. The manufactory’s artistic renown, unrivalled anywhere in the world, is dazzlingly expressed every year with the “Limited Masterworks” collection. In these collections, icons from the annals of porcelain history and rarities from the Meissen archives are revived and remastered, bringing nearly forgotten techniques back to life.

This year marks the anniversary of several important works and names from the manufactory’s history, which have been taken up in the “Limited Masterworks” collection. It is this untiring reexamination of the manufactory’s legendary traditions, the contemplation of traditional techniques and their relevance for our present day, and the exploration of the possibilities offered by modern design that propel the “Limited Masterworks” collection to new heights year after year. With its creative breadth and high artistic benchmarks, the collection is the crowning glory of the Meissen manufactory.
“The ‘Limited Masterworks’ edition embodies the history, the craftsmanship, and contemporary workings of the Meissen porcelain manufactory.”

At the heart of the “Limited Masterworks” are the people who turn porcelain into works of art and, in their unique styles, have made MEISSEN famous around the world. Every piece bears the unmistakeable touch of its creator, thus making each object a unique collectible.
  • “Every masterpiece that leaves our manufactory represents the ultimate in craftsmanship. Our painters and designers have passed down their knowledge from one generation to the next for centuries while also researching antique production methods that have fallen into oblivion. These artists are not only responsible for creating the works that embody this passion for a centuries-old craft but have also provided practically limitless inspiration throughout the manufactory’s history.”

    Wall Paintings Giant Bloom
The three-part wall painting series of the Limited Masterpieces 2021 is inspired by the vase of the same name in the Limited Masterpieces 2020 and features modern flower painting on Meissen porcelain. The large-scale hand painting covers the object in stylised form. Arranged abstractly, the flowers harmonise in unusual size with the novel, round shape of the mural. In addition to the inimitable luminosity of Meissen colours, the murals show an outstanding combination of tradition and innovation. Flower painting on Meissen porcelain has been around since the 18th century. "Giant Bloom" is a modern interpretation of the traditional décor and a beautiful example of unique craftsmanship.
  • “The “Limited Masterworks” series embodies the history and expertise of the Meissen manufactory, as well as the contemporary MEISSEN. Every year this collection allows us to not only write a new chapter in the unique history of this company, but also to discover hidden treasures in our archives, new talents within our artists, and unexplored facets of individual pieces. Sometimes we draw inspiration from historical objects or interpret them in a novel way, but we also make space for brand new contemporary art. We are particularly proud of the achievements of our young artists – they are the ones who will continue to carry the torch of expert craftsmanship and, above all, passion for Meissen porcelain.”
