The bulldog designed by Meissen modeller Rudolf Rehbeil in 1955 in a new decoration full of flowers. Designer Lena Hensel and figure painter Romy Kunath have now contributed to the "Blooming Meissen" theme by breathing fresh life into Rehbeil's fierce-looking yet thoroughly good-natured canine creature. In a departure from conventional figure decoration, the exuberant colours in which fanciful indianisch flowers tend to be rendered have been reshuffled for these patterns. A mass of flowers trail freely up the little bulldogs' bodies and become organically intertwined with gilt scrolling stems. This new context makes of indianisch flowers that were once simply supporting decoration the figurine's principal form of embellishment.
