description
Antemann based this designer sculpture on a trompe l'oeil mural of a masked ball by Antoine Pesne and Friedrich Wilhelm Höder from 1746. In Antemann's masked ball figure, a couple rests on the edge of a ballroom on a chaise longue typical of the era. The lady in the designer sculpture removes her mask in a moment of surprise as the gentleman leans over in an unabashed manner to embrace her. Allusions to well-known chinoiserie artwork, combined with classic MEISSEN® floral motifs, offer a multi-layered visual suggestion of the emotional tension of the figure in these artworks in Antemann's typical style.
