description
The "Pianist" is one of the highlights of Johann Joachim Kaendler's renowned "Monkey Band." Created in the 18th century, this series of hand-painted collectible figures was conceived as a witty reflection of courtly society. At the time, the monkey was a highly fashionable motif, providing Kaendler with the perfect vehicle for his refined and satirical artistry.

What makes the "Pianist" particularly distinctive is its dynamic composition: two monkeys form the scene-one carrying the piano on his back, while the other sits atop it, playing. This lively arrangement combines narrative humor with masterful modeling.

Crafted from the finest Meissen porcelain and meticulously hand-painted, the figure-like all 21 works in the "Monkey Band" series-represents the highest level of craftsmanship and the enduring artistic tradition of the MEISSEN manufactory.
