Single Figurine Cupid with Shirt World of Meissen Patterns

Cupid figures have been an integral part of the artistic repertoire of the Meissen porcelain manufactory since the mid-eighteenth century. The individual figure "Cupid with Shirt - Meissen Decorative Worlds" is based on a design by the sculptor Johann Pollak from 1880 and combines the manufactory's historic sculptural language with a contemporary design element.

The idea of dressing the classical Cupid figure in a T-shirt originated from the widely acclaimed collaboration between MEISSEN and the American brand Supreme in 2019. For that edition, the figure was adorned with the iconic Supreme logo.

In the present version, Cupid wears the "Meissen Decorative Worlds" design. This composition brings together motifs from more than three centuries of manufactory history in a modern, collage-like arrangement. The individual image segments are organised like the petals of a camellia, each referencing a characteristic decorative era of Meissen.

From underglaze painting and gallant scenes to dragon and floral motifs, a richly layered patchwork emerges, reflecting the remarkable diversity of Meissen's decorative art.

In this way, the figure uniquely combines historical porcelain artistry with contemporary design while exemplifying the manufactory's ability to continually reinterpret its rich heritage for the present day.
