description
This symbolically rich Meissen porcelain figure depicts Amor, the god of love, as he kindles a fire-not just any fire, but one between two hearts. In this dynamic portrayal, Amor becomes the driving force of passion, igniting the bond between two lovers. The scene is a metaphor for the moment love is sparked-powerful, uncontrollable, and yet guided by Amor's hand.

The design was created by Heinrich Schwabe, one of the most distinguished sculptors at the Meissen manufactory in the late 19th century. Schwabe was known for his ability to translate classical mythological themes into emotional and often surprisingly modern visual narratives. In this piece, he masterfully combines movement, symbolism, and storytelling depth.

Putti-childlike representations of Amor-have been a central motif in Meissen porcelain art since the 18th century. Far more than decorative elements, they served to portray the full spectrum of human emotion-from tender affection to overwhelming passion.

The porcelain figure "Amor - Kindling the Fire of Two Hearts" was traditionally handcrafted and meticulously hand-painted. Special attention was given to the flames, the two hearts, and Amor's determined expression-all brought to life with delicate brushwork. At the Meissen manufactory, Bossierer (assemblers) carefully construct such figures from numerous individually cast porcelain parts, then skillfully model each section using specialized tools. The result is a miniature sculpture that unites artistic finesse with emotional intensity.
