description
This high-quality Meissen porcelain figure depicts the god of love, Amor (also known as Cupid), in an unusual moment: not as a bow-wielding archer, but as a compassionate healer mending a wounded heart. The scene is an allegorical representation of love and vulnerability-themes that held particular significance in late 19th-century art. The contrast between Amor's childlike appearance and the deeply emotional act gives the figure poetic depth.

The design comes from Heinrich Schwabe, one of the talented modelers at the Meissen porcelain manufactory in the late 19th century. Schwabe had a masterful ability to translate narrative and emotion into small-scale porcelain sculptures-a skill that is especially evident in this MEISSEN piece.

Putti-small, childlike depictions of Amor-were a central motif in Meissen porcelain art, especially since the 18th century. They were often presented in humorous or symbolic scenes and served both decorative purposes and the communication of social or moral messages.

This figure of Amor was meticulously hand-painted-every detail, from Amor's facial expression to the finely shaded heart, reflects the highest level of artistic precision. At the Meissen manufactory, Bossierer (assemblers) carefully piece together such figures from numerous individually cast porcelain components. Each section is then skillfully modeled using fine tools to capture motion, expression, and lifelike vitality in the miniature sculpture.
