description
This charming and humorous Meissen porcelain figure depicts Amor, the god of love, in an unusual and witty pose: bent over, he carries an oversized slipper on his back. This portrayal playfully references the well-known saying "to be under the slipper," which humorously describes the dynamics of partnership and love-here, the huge slipper symbolizes the dominant role of the partner and the "burden" Amor sometimes bears in the name of love.

The design is by Heinrich Schwabe, one of the most important modelers of the Meissen porcelain manufactory in the late 19th century. Schwabe was renowned for his ability to transform classical mythological figures into surprising, often humorous scenes, modeled with great precision and a keen eye for detail. With this figure, he creates a playful allegory of the challenges and complexities of love-far removed from idealized romance.

The Amor figure is made from the finest Meissen porcelain and traditionally hand-painted. The vibrant colors and delicate details, such as the texture of the slipper and Amor's playful posture, reflect the highest level of craftsmanship. At 17.5 cm tall, this miniature is not only a technical masterpiece but also a work of art full of wit and expressive power.

At the Meissen porcelain manufactory, such complex putti are carefully assembled by specialized artisans called Bossierer from numerous individual porcelain parts. They are then modeled and finished with specialized tools to create movement and liveliness in the figure. The result is a miniature sculpture that combines technical perfection with narrative depth, offering a humorous glimpse into the human sides of love.
