They stand immovably in the Lateran Basilica: the larger-than-life marble sculptures of the twelve apostles. The Saxon Elector Frederick Augustus II had an idea: every sculpture, every work of art should be able to admire his mother-in-law, the Habsburg Empress Dowager Amalie, as a porcelain figure in her Viennese chambers. Between 1737 and 1740, Johann Joachim Kaendler then created the famous series of apostles at the MEISSEN manufactory with skillful craftsmanship. As heralds of the message of Jesus, the apostles are an inseparable part of the Christmas season. This work of art by MEISSEN is part of the manufactory's exclusive sculpture collection and is therefore limited. The apostle figure of St. James shines through the texture of the pristine white porcelain and Kaendler's superb craftsmanship. The depiction of Jacobus is incredibly detailed and elegantly realized. As a work of art by Kaendler, this figurine is limited and unquestionably precious. The exclusive collection of the MEISSEN manufactory includes a unique and exceptionally crafted sculpture for each apostle, which are also limited editions.
