• The MEISSEN Collage
    Arts and crafts since 1710
At the behest of King August III, Johann Joachim Kaendler created the incomparable "Snowball Blossoms" in 1739. A lavishly designed and in the production very elaborate decoration of numerous filigree blossoms, which are still produced individually and without mold by hand. Tightly packed, they are placed on numerous porcelain objects with which the king shows his love to his wife Maria Josepha of Austria. With the "Royal Blossom" series, the venerable "snowball blossoms" are reinterpreted as a relief for the first time.

  • The MEISSEN Collage
Royal Blossom - an icon of porcelain art
To this day, the "Snowball Blossoms" are among the most outstanding artistic works of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory and icons of porcelain art. Only the high-quality material of the manufactory enabled the master modeller Johann Joachim Kaendler in the 18th century to place detailed plastic structures, such as those of the filigree porcelain blossoms, in a very confined space. With his modeling skills and later as artistic director, Johann Joachim Kaendler decisively influenced the artistic heyday of the manufactory from 1730 and its reputation. Building on the manufactory's rich tradition of craftsmanship, the iconic decoration for "Royal Blossom" is reinterpreted for the first time on the purist service form "N°41".
