Pearl Collection #tearsofgods
  • For thousands of years, pearls have fascinated people with their magical beauty. They are the symbol of feminine grace, temptation and elegance. Accordingly, there are countless myths surrounding their origin. In Persia, for example, pearls were believed to be the tears of Gods. And the ancient Greeks claimed, that pearls were dewdrops, which were transformed into the shimmering jewels by the moon at night, like tiny images of the celestial body on earth.
Iby the way, the idea of pearl-like (dew)drops has survived to this day in the verb to pearl. For example, when water pearls off something, it runs down in the form of drops.
Pearls have also always been associated with love: Venus, the Roman goddess of sensuality and love, is said to have been born like a pearl from a sea oyster. And an Indian legend tells of the daughter of a great mogul who is not allowed to marry the prince she loves. Locked up in a rock castle by the sea, she can no longer stop crying. Her tears fall into the sea and are transformed into pearls by the god Krishna.

Pearls are some of the oldest pieces of jewellery known to us. As early as 2500 years ago, the first pearl fisheries existed along the coast of Sri Lanka. Because pearls were so rare, however, they were for a long time reserved almost exclusively for kings, royal houses and ecclesiastical dignitaries.
Thanks to modern cultivation methods, pearls have become more affordable today - but the sublime and sensual feeling when wearing the matt shimmer has remained.
The queens among cultured pearls are the South Sea pearls, which are larger and more precious than their siblings. The new Meissen porcelain pearls are inspired by these, adding a new dimension to the concept of "white gold". Not less precious than the creations of nature, the pearls of the Meissen "Pearl Collection Pure White" not only look stunningly similar to their natural models. The combination of their aura with a puristically modern and at the same time classically timeless design makes the porcelain pearls truly unique jewellery.

"Energetic, yet discreet, the pearls are thereby, like the earth's moon, a constant companion and a symbol of femininity, grace and purity.“
  • The perfect round shape of the porcelain pearls is the result of an absolutely precise work. This applies not only to the spherical shape of the little treasures themselves, but also to their painting. Each pearl is coated with so-called luster paint, which imitates the shimmering effect of natural pearls in a unique way. Luster colours are among the oldest colour formulas in the manufactory and have been used on magnificent vases and paintings in MEISSEN since the 18th century. In the final firing, they create iridescent metal oxide layers that reflect the light like mother-of-pearl. This not only gives the Meissen porcelain pearls an appearance that looks deceptively similar to natural pearls. The soft sheen also reminds us of the silvery shimmering moon and thus of the universe. In accordance with this idea, the porcelain pearls of the "Pearl Collection" on the choker, bangle and the "Circle" ring circle on a kind of orbit made of 750 rose gold.

According to a widespread superstition, real pearls should not be given as gifts, because for every pearl given, the person receiving the gift is said to be in tears. It is assumed that this legend goes back to the former pearl fishermen who often did not return home from their trips to the sea, leaving their wives in tears.
You certainly don't need to worry about this with the porcelain pearls from MEISSEN, as they weren't snatched from the sea, but only originate from the highest level of craftsmanship!
