The Chinese models of this vase can be found in the Royal Porcelain Collection in Dresden. For the "Gourd Vase East Asian Dragon Motifs" made of Meissen porcelain, the cobalt blue colour is applied to the shards in underglaze painting and penetrates deeply into the still porous underground. Corrections are then no longer possible. Therefore highest precision is required. When unburned, the cobalt blue appears grey like graphite; it is only after firing at 1400 °C that the cobalt turns into a spectacular blue.
