description
One of the key aims of MEISSEN's Exclusive Collection is to bring important historical works of art back to life-objects that have long since disappeared from the current range. With the three-part table fountain by Johann Gottlieb Kirchner, the manufactory now presents the elaborate revival of an exceptional masterpiece from the early 18th century.
Kirchner created the clay model for this impressive fountain in 1728. However, only the large shell-shaped basin had survived in the manufactory's mold archive. In close collaboration with the Hetjens - German Ceramics Museum in Düsseldorf, the complete fountain was reconstructed and reissued over a period of four years. Its original function was also restored: water can genuinely flow through the sculptural figures and shell-shaped bowls.
Of particular artistic importance is the magnificent painting of the basin after Johann Gregorius Höroldt. A richly detailed chinoiserie scene featuring exotic figures, plants, and architectural elements unfolds across the sweeping bowl and bears witness to the exceptional mastery of early MEISSEN painting.
The table fountain combines virtuoso modeling, sophisticated technical execution, and precious painting in an impressive Gesamtkunstwerk. Its revival makes an important chapter of MEISSEN's history tangible once again.
