description
In the "Japanese Palace" in Dresden, the Saxon Elector Augustus the Strong wanted to fulfill his dream of a zoo with porcelain animals. He commissioned a large number of figures, mostly life-size, for this porcelain zoo. From 1727 to 1733, Johann Gottlieb Kirchner worked as a porcelain modeler and at times as a master modeler at the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory. This large-scale sculpture of the bear, which was assembled from 30 individual parts by skilled modelers as if the figure had been created from a single cast, also dates from this period. Large sculptures made of Meissen porcelain are unique and their production still poses great challenges for the manufacturers today. You can find more precious animal figurines and large sculptures made of Meissen porcelain in our online store.
