Single Figurine Polar bear, slightly stylized

The polar bear rests in a sleeping pose. Its massive body lies relaxed on the base, its head rests calmly, and its hind legs are stretched out fully. The posture appears at ease yet still powerful, capturing the stillness of an animal that conserves warmth and energy in the Arctic. The sculptor conveyed this calm in every line: in the softness of the fur, the weight of the paws, and the subtle sinking of the body into the base.

The polychrome painting reinforces this modeling. Fine brushwork brings out contours, shading, and fur texture, so the figure feels alive even at close range. The painting follows the sculptural form and highlights the details the modeler created.

Producing such a figure is a multi-stage process. First, the model is created, usually in plaster or wax, and later forms the mold for the porcelain. The porcelain body is then cast or worked into the mold, finished by hand, fired, and glazed. Next comes the hand painting. Every application of color requires patience and experience, as the colors are applied in several layers and fired again. This is why each figure is unique, with small, characteristic variations.

At 26 cm in length, the figure is an impressive collectible. It stands in the tradition of animal sculpture at the porcelain manufactory, where naturalistic representation and craftsmanship have come together since the 18th century.
